The Rice School/La Escuela Rice
Technology Applications
Welcome back to
school. My classroom is now located in
G203 (hallway above the Gym). The Rice
School has furnished the computer lab with new computers!
Students should
come to each class with only their student planner and a Computer folder (with
pockets and brads). On the few
occasions when we need to use writing instruments, they will be provided. Please leave all binders, textbooks, pens,
pencils, markers, etc. in your locker.
This year students
will be learning features of Microsoft Office programs including: Word, Excel,
Powerpoint, Exchange, Internet Explorer and Photo editor. There will be projects/units which require
students to use problem solving skills and a variety of these programs to
simulate real world situations.
Students will learn effective Internet research skills and how to judge
the value of information available on the World Wide Web. Students will develop correct keyboarding
skills and work to increase the words per minute typed using the program All
The Right Type .
Each class period
will begin with typing skills practice.
Students are expected to learn and practice correct keyboarding
technique. The goal will be to improve
technique and typing speed throughout the year. There will be daily instruction on computer terminology, software applications, …
The last 10 - 15
minutes of class will be spent typing a journal entry on a given topic. The topic may be to summarize the new
concept learned, personal reflection or creative writing.
Typing skills 30%
Daily assignments/projects 50%
Quizzes 10%
Daily participation 5%
Computer Folder 5%
I seldom assign
work to be done outside of the computer lab.
However, I encourage student’s enthusiasm to explore and
>>learn
about new software applications, current products
and evolving technology on their own and with their family.
If you have
questions or concerns please feel free to write me a note or email me at possorio@houstonisd.org.
